Welcome to Our Early Childhood Program: Kindergarten-2nd Grade

K-1 class display kippahs they madeJudaics: history and culture: Students in our Early Childhood Program begin their Judaics studies by learning about their Jewish world: holidays, Bible studies, spirituality and values. Teachers incorporate a variety of strategies to make these topics come alive for students: stories, learning games, student workbooks, art activities and songs.

Hebrew: Our early grades get a gentle introduction to a foreign language. Study here focuses primarily on learning basic brachot (blessings) for food and holidays. Kids also begin to identify individual letters and sounds of the Alef Bet. By the end of second grade, many of our students are able to “sound out” one- and two-syllable words.

Teacher Kay Taub and her 2nd GradersStudents can be exposed to Modern Hebrew orally in several ways. Songs can be taught in Hebrew that use modern words and teachers can do follow-up activities with those words. Also, such games as “Shimon Omer” (“Simon Says”), “I’m thinking of an object, etc.” are effective introductions to Modern Hebrew words at this age.  We includes lots of games and activities to make learning fun and effective.
