Welcome to 7th Grade!
Judaics:
As our seventh graders focus on bar/bat mitzvah preparations, our theme for their learning is “Mitzvot.” They engage in a review of the holidays at a developmentally appropriate level, focusing on the underlying values and mitzvot associated with each. Text study incorporates the weekly Torah portion and the values that serve as foundations for daily decision-making. Students who participate in our midweek program on-site have the opportunity to study with the Rabbi on Thursday afternoons.
Hebrew:
Seventh graders will take part in a practice Shabbat morning prayer service with Rabbi
Heifetz each Thursday afternoon. This service will continue to be used as a means of making students comfortable with being on the bimah and leading prayers in preparation for Bar/Bat Mitzvah. During this learning service students will also have opportunities to discuss the meaning and significance of various prayers. Concurrently, the rest of the Thursday afternoon program will focus on helping students reach a deeper understanding of a number of the tefillot used in our Shabbat morning service. Students will have an opportunity to do chavruta-style (study pairs) study and then find a way through art, drama or music to express their understanding of the prayers they are studying.
