What’s New in the Archaeology of Jerusalem?
Prof. Gideon Avni, Professor of Archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Archaeological excavations in Jerusalem have reached a zenith in the last decade, with some fascinating discoveries that illuminate the rich history of the Holy City. The archaeology of Jerusalem is also strongly reflected in the national and religious identities of its modern Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities. This talk will address some of the major archaeological discoveries in Jerusalem, relating both to the “big stories” and to small anecdotes of the city’s past, based on Dr. Avni’s personal and professional impressions from more than thirty years of archaeological work in Jerusalem.
