For our “One Book” synagogue-wide read this year, we are reading The Garment Maker’s Daughter by Hillary Adrienne Stern. Published in December 2016, the novel spans multiple decades, following Jewish immigrant Lena Rothman who moves to American to become a shirtwaist-maker and devoted suffragette and who survives a devastating fire at the factory. A tale of friendship, love and fate, this saga is a bittersweet story of unforgettable characters.
The Garment Maker’s Daughter was selected as an Editor’s Choice by the Historical Novel Society. Paperback and Kindle versions are currently available for sale on Amazon. Copies are also available for sale in the Oseh Shalom office for $10.00 each.
